Trump Won and Everything is Terrible

I’m not American, I’m British, and so I’ve been told a few times that I shouldn’t really care about Donald Trump and the path the United States is currently on. I shouldn’t be upset and distressed about it because it won’t affect me.

This is bullshit, for 2 reasons. First of all being, I’m not selfish, and I do in fact care about the huge amount of people who will be harmed over in the US by a fully empowered MAGA government in charge of all 3 branches. From women who will suffer and die in the case of radical abortion bans, and very likely particularly to suffer under the incoming administrations’s horrifically reactionary attitude to divorce, expressed by VP JD Vance’s hostility towards it, to LGBT people whose lives and rights are now under alarming threat, to the thousands of immigrants living in the country who are now at risk of senseless deportation and to all of the non-idiots who didn’t vote for Trump but will suffer economically as a result of his no-doubt damaging and insane Tarrif policies.

Second of all, yes, this does actually have bleak consequences for the rest of us. With the US now facing 4 more years of environmental protections being ripped away for the benefit of the orange cunt’s donors, and the US pulling out officially of the Paris Climate Agreements, which will all but end any serious hope of preventing the worst outcomes of Climate Change as long as the world’s biggest emitter of carbon is not playing along and racing to the abyss. Ukraine will also likely now be abandoned and the horrific events in the Middle East will be escalated further. We’ll be getting alt-right, lunatic political movements being emboldened all over the world.

I hope the fucking morons and bigots who voted for this are happy. No denying, the Democrats are at fault for helping create and then barely respond to the conditions that led to this, but that does not for one second justify anyone voting for a candidate and group of people as abjectly and objectively terrible as these Nazi pricks.

What this election says about the US (people willing to toss women’s rights and LGBT rights away for a bunch of lies about lower prices) is exceptionally grim and bleak. A rapist misogynistic insurrectionist won 50% of the popular vote in a US election. You can’t argue the US isn’t getting what it fucking voted for, and I hope they are happy.
